Disclaimer 2008
This post is meant to give you a quick overview of what I hope to accomplish with the “Politics” category of this web site for what’s left of the 2008 presidential election season. It also gives you a little insight into my political leanings (which will become obvious rather quickly) and a few guidelines for posting comments in this category.
First of all, regardless of your position on this election I want to assure you that all readers and differing opinions are welcome. I have many friends that are hard-core Republicans and many that are liberal Democrats. Some base their preference on specific platform issues. Some are simply misguided. I confess, here and now, that I have voted for each party at one point or another. I guess that makes me an independent.
I know that nothing posted on this site is likely to sway those of you who are committed to a particular party or candidate. However, I hope to share with all of you a fresh perspective and, in some cases, some levity. When I’m being “silly” I’ll try to make that clear and if I make a mistake or post a falsehood I hope to be called out via the comment feature or by email. Keep me honest people!
I also want my posts and your comments to add to what’s in the news instead of rehashing it. Let’s share OUR thoughts and opinions and not just parrot the liberal media or conservative talk radio. When possible, try to share how you came to have your opinion. If you are sharing facts, please try to fact check. (Snopes – learn about it.)
Of course, for those few of you still on the fence – I hope to sway you to my way of thinking. It gives me a purpose.
While I may occasionally use what is perceived to be a derogatory adjective or noun to describe one of the candidates (elitist, bubble-head, “lawyer” …), I will endeavor to avoid being hurtful or unfairly disparaging. I expect the same in your comments. While we are on the topic – I strongly encourage comments whether you agree or disagree with me. When commenting, please keep in mind the following:
· Try to be respectful of others and remember – this is a PG site. (As much as I enjoy dropping the occasional F-bomb, this is not the place.)
· If you are going to post a link to an article or web page that backs up your opinion, please try to use reputable sources. The comment feature should allow you to include up to two links per comment.
· I have the power to delete objectionable material.
· If you have trouble posting a comment, contact me via email.
Remember – one of the great things about this country is that we can agree to disagree and still get along. We work together, we socialize together, we live in the same communities peacefully. Hate mongers are not welcome at this site. If you have an opinion that differs from mine I reserve the right to invoke Bobism #2. I also accept the fact that I may be the stupid one.
And now… full disclosure – I am supporting Barack Obama for the presidency of the United States on November 4, 2008. Learn some of my reasons why by reading my posts over the next few weeks. Feel free to try to change my mind. But it’s not very likely.
