Season 9, Top 9, Lennon McCartney
Spring is in the air and April showers abound. Good a time as any to let the American Idol contestants torture us with dull versions of classic John Lennon and Paul McCartney tunes. Such a great songbook to choose from… I wonder why most of them decided to bore us instead of busting out with some Beatle’s style fun. You want creative Beatle’s music on American Idol? YouTube up some Chickezie from 2008. You having trouble sleeping? Watch this week’s American Idol.
Aaron – Some kind of black double breasted marching band jacket over a plaid shirt. This guy is starting to annoy me almost as much as Tim. Watch for him in the bottom three this week. Ellen stole my line… “Felt like a Long and Winding Song.” At least the judges weren’t as nice as they usually are for him.
Katie – Hot pink and a ponytail. I’ve been hard on her the last few weeks, but it could have been worse. She looked her age and it didn’t sound bad. The judges loved it – LOVED IT. Not sure it was as good as they made it sound but there was improvement. I was still bored and she still might be in the bottom three, but Let it Be. Tim’s departure will save her?
Andrew – Charcoal suit and yellow sport shirt. I’m still a fan of his vocals but it was kinda boring. Randy nailed it – “solid performance but not jumping up and down.” Can’t Buy Me Love, but he doesn’t need my love. I’m sure he’s fine this week.
Michael – Kind of a Johnny Cash style all-black look. Judges made some references to the TV show Glee. If this performance was indicative of what you see on the show then I’m glad I don’t watch it. BORING. Even Eleanor Rigby would be bored. He was an early favorite, but lately he keeps letting me down.
Crystal – Black wide collar top, jeans and boots. It didn’t all Come Together, but at least it didn’t suck. She had a guy playing a didgeridoo on stage with her which was more distracting than helpful for the performance. Eh… at least she tried to sass things up.
Tim – Faded red longjohn’s top and a dorkie grey with white stripes jacket. Why is he still on the show?!? It sucked and it was boring, but I will give him one compliment – his vocals were better. Not enough to keep him on the show mind you. He doesn’t get All My Lovin’… in fact he gets none.
Casey – White blazer with black shirt and pants. His guitar playing is better than his vocals, but he is turning out to be better than I expected. I was a bit bored… and not because I’m a Jealous Guy. Simon thought it was the best of the night and I did get a text message from one of my loyal readers, Little Miss Sunshine, who agreed. Eh… it was ok. I actually thought he was better last week.
Siobhan – Lots of white lace and ruffles topped with a black leather biker vest. Hair looked good, especially when you consider that the first few weeks she had bird’s nest hair. A pinch boring and not my favorite Siobhan moment, but I did like it and it was one of the best performances this week. She is a true artist and will probably get votes from Across the Universe. Maybe even from her home planet.
Lee – Black jacket and string bean tie with a white shirt. Our final dose of Ambien for the night. Call out Hey Jude and no one will answer because he’s asleep. Simon didn’t like the bag pipes he fit in to the arrangement. I actually thought the bag pipes were the best part. He had a “moment” last week. This week was just weak.
Anyone out there awake enough to comment?
– Christopher
You said Siobhan may get votes from her home plant – that was HILARIOUS. I think you missed the boat on Hey Jude – it was great. The last 3 performers were the best… Casey was excellent (maybe that is just in comparison to the first 6 and if I just saw him performing this alone I’d be bored). My vote for the boot: Katie, Aaron or the guy with the big glasses and the neck tattoo (I don’t even care enough for him to learn his name).
No no no… TIM has to go.
I’ll agree that Aaron and Katie are on deck with him.
But Andrew – Kim Jong Il glasses and neck tat – he can stay. I like his unique voice.
As for Hey Jude… maybe it was better than I suggested, but Lee was better last week.
Well for the first time I have actually watched most of the season of AI and I must say that it has been a snooze fest and other than the 2 chickees (the one with the Dredlocks and Ms. Crazy hair) I think the rest are uninteresting or sound like I am listen to karoke regulars. Also I thought there was supposed to be witty banter between the judges? One would think that Ellen would be interesting but not really which is weird because I do enjoy watching her talk show. As AI always been this boring?
Mary Ann,
This season is more boring than in the past. As for the witty banter – Ellen gets a line in now and then, but not as much as hoped. Kara sucks and I miss Paula.
I should track down a bunch of YouTube links for favorite performances from past seasons. Most seasons there are a few great ones. Nothing from this season makes my list.
Bid Daddy I totally agree with you, this week was BORING!!! I think we need to always watch AI together with cocktails because let’s face it, we have a darn good time. They should have let Big Mike go last night….I am over him.
JG – aka Olive –
You are penciled in for next Tuesday. I’ll bring wine. Maybe Vanessa will join us.
I’m over Big Mike too and I wasn’t surprised to see him in the bottom 3. I also wasn’t surprised by the judges pissing away their “save”.
What DID surprise me was that Tim wasn’t even in the bottom three. WHAT? Crazy.

I YouTubed the Chickezie performances of Beatles’s songs from 2008.
That was fun American Idol.
